Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms, as well as the arms control. She traveled extensively with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
